Summer in the Catskills - Who would have known?

This summer marks my first visits to New York's Catskill Mountains. It's been on my list primarily because I have a family connection to this region. My mom and her siblings grew up in Roscoe, NY and they also spent many days at a nearby lakeside house on Lake Muskoday. My connection was grounded in stories of The Antrim Lodge and my Uncle Henny's antics, not the vast mountain ranges and the prolific vistas. Yet, when hitting the trail it felt like home. I will return to this region and tackle more mountain challenges. But this trip was as much about me connecting to my family history as it was about catching another epic view. I did not add footage to my vlog https://youtu.be/QLqWA9k7EbA of my search for my mom's childhood home, the house on Lake Muskoday, the village of Roscoe, the "World Famous Roscoe Diner" or my visit to nearby Livingston Manor to catch a photo of the Robinhood Diner for my Aunt Joan (yes, Aunt Joan, it was still there!) With my mom on FaceTime, I drove around the area, pointing my camera outward so that she could see the view, and navigate me through the roads and memories of her childhood. It was a complicated time for her and her siblings, as they were uprooted from family in Brooklyn and driven to this new and different world. And while the attached vlog is strictly about my hike, the photos below capture a part of the trip down memory lane and are just as meaningful to me as the climb up Table and Peekamoose Mountains. Hope you enjoy both! VLOG: https://youtu.be/QLqWA9k7EbA And Photos:
