Slow and Steady

I recently have been pondering the change of the season and why it is causing me so much bloody stress! Summertime is about kicking back, going fishing, taking strolls in the woods of Maine (I can’t do that in East Hampton due to the dreaded ticks), and basking in the sun. So why is it that as soon as the sun starts to sink into the sky by 6:30 p.m., I begin to worry about splitting wood for the winter, cleaning up the garden, putting all of the outdoor furniture away, getting the chimney cleaned, and every other thing that needs to be done. It’s like I’m a bear that suddenly realized my hibernation time is just around the corner, so I better get my ass in gear, or I’ll die. Perhaps my pre-hibernation state of mind also caused me to gain a few pounds over the past few weeks.
I know it will all get done – every year the Husband and I seem to always pull it off. But this year I am willing myself to not lose my mind over it. So here is the deal: Starting the first week of October I am endeavoring to do one thing each day towards getting the job done. Usually, I kill myself trying to get everything done in one day. Not this year – 30 minutes a day, every day (unless I am away) until it is done. I’ll let you know how it goes.
For those of you wondering how things were in St. John, it was a lovely and exhausting trip. On the bright side, we were able to make some progress cleaning up after the hurricane. Also, I did take one break to go snorkeling at Hawks Nest Beach and saw Tarpon larger than my husband – very cool indeed. I wish I had brought my husband’s Go Pro so I could have taken some pictures. On the not so great side, we had more damage than I thought, and the Husband and I steadily worked for the entire trip in 94-degree weather trying to clean it up a bit. Here are some before and after photos of part of the clean-up, as well as a picture of an awesome sunset and some island local characters. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week. Next week -the Fryeburg Fair!
